In this investigation, ten wells from the unproven, frontier part of the Taranaki Basin were screened using the technique of fluid inclusion volatiles (FIV) at ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company. Furthermore, optical fluid inclusion (OpFI) petrography and microthermometry were performed on selected samples. FIV and OpFI analysis shed insights into the migration, origins, and homogenization temperatures of hydrocarbon inclusions. Cuttings were sampled from the New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals core storage facility in Featherston, New Zealand during February 2015.
