The Manutahi Field is a small shallow onshore heavy-oil field located on the southern side of the Taranaki Peninsula approximately 25km south of Hawera in PMP 38155. The 2011 Manutahi Horizontal Drilling Program was a pilot project designed to evaluate the commerciality of further development on the Manutahi Field. This program used horizontal wells to flood the primary reservoir with water pre-heated to a temperature of approximately 100C in order to lower the viscosity of the oil and boost production. Manutahi-D3H was spudded on the 28th May 2011. TD on the 6in hole section of Manutahi-D3H was called at 1767.0m on 15th June due to intersecting a fault and missing the target. Manutahi-D3H ST1 was kicked off and drilled to 2252m MD but did not intersect the optimal reservoir zone. The bit was pulled back to 1897m in the Upper UM1 Sandstone in Manutahi-D3H ST1 in order to drill a low-side sidetrack designated Manutahi-D3H ST2 which drilled to 2070m MD. Manutahi-D3H ST2 was cased and completed for production.
