Ahuroa-3 was the first of three wells drilled as part of the Ahuroa Gas Storage Project carried out by Origin Energy Resources NZ (TAWN) Limited. It was spudded on 4/11/2009 and reached to a total depth of 2558m MD on 20/12/2009. The objective was to be a gas injector and withdrawal well targeting the Tariki Sandstone member which comprises a sequence of deep water turbiditic sandstones. Good gas shows and some oil shows were observed in the Mt Messenger Formation while drilling, and some shows were observed in the Tariki Sandstone. The well was logged and completed as a gas storage well.
