Prospectivity Review of PEP 38346, Hawkes Bay.

Westech Energy NZ explored PEP 38329 in northern Hawkes Bay with extensive seismic acquisition and 14 wells. However, although the Kauhauroa-1 and Tuhara-1 wells showed initial promise as discoveries, no commercial resources were tabled. The wells drilled to date have been located in crestal locations on well-defined anticlines, which have not only been prone to high or extreme overpressure, but have been actively growing at intervals through the Neogene. This project was commissioned by Westech Energy to review the existing seismic coverage in the permit, with emphasis on secondary features in the lows between the main highs, where good-quality sands may have been deposited in stratigraphic or combined structural-stratigraphic traps. A specific objective was to locate plays that could be detailed with 3-D seismic to define a drillable target.
