In May 2005 Todd Petroleum Mining Limited as part of the development planning of the Karewa Field(PEP 38602) had the gas from headspace and RFT gas samples from Kahawai-1 evaluated by James Preston Exploration Geochem Consulting Pty Ltd (Melbourne) for the risk of significant thermogenic hydrocarbon content that could complicate the simple biogeneic methane system production. The conclusion was that there were very low thermogenic concentration and very low levels of CO2 present and that the gas was indeed biogenic.
