Kauri E-6 was drilled as an appraisal well in PEP 38719, near the town of Manutahi on the Taranaki Peninsula, North Island, New Zealand. The well was designed to further evaluate the Kauri Structure, at Kauri Sandstone level and also in the underlying Tariki Sandstone, as penetrated in Kauri E-4; Kauri E-6 was spudded on 7 August, 2004 and reached a total depth of 3287 m MD on 6 September, 2004. A 12 1/4 inch hole was drilled to 903 m MD. 9 5/8 inch casing was run to 897 m MD. An 8 1/2 inch hole was drilled from 903 metres to 2803 m MD. A secondary target, the Manutahi Sandstone was encountered at 1348 m MD (1201.09 mTVDSS). The Kauri Sandstone was penetrated at 2681.8 m MD (2383.94 m TVDSS), slightly low to prognosis. After logs were run, a 7 inch liner was run down to 2800m MD and a 6 inch hole was drilled to total depth at 3287 m MD. The Tariki Sandstone was penetrated at 3262.5 m MD (2939.48 m; TVDSS), high to prognosis. Kauri E-6 was TD'd at 3287m after encountering Rimu Limestone in the sample cuttings. Wireline logs were run and a 4 1/2 inch liner was run to 3287 m MD; On the 25 September 2004, Kauri E-6 was perforated across two zones in the Tariki Sandstone, with unsustainable flows of up to 945MCFG and 450 BO. The Kauri Sandstone did not exhibit good log reservoir potential and has not been tested to date.
