Rimu A2A was drilled as an appraisal well in PEP 38719. The Rimu A2A was drilled as a directional hole to 4200 m MD, and was side-tracked from the Rimu A2 well. The A2A well was prognosed to intersect the Tariki Sandstone interval (Upper Plate) approximately 881 m east-southeast of the Rimu A1 well at an azimuth of 111.3 degrees. The well was anticipated to contain oil and gas by analogy with Rimu A1. Rimu A2A kicked off at 1728 m MD on 1 February 2002 and was drilled in one 8 1/2in section from 1728 m MD to 4031 m MD. Rimu A2A reached total depth of 4031 m MD on 17 February 2002. Casing (5 1/2in) was run and the rig released. The Tariki Sandstone (Upper Plate) was encountered at 3852 m MD (3497.4 m TVDSS) and had a gross interval of 59 m. There were good drilling breaks (up to 33 m/hr) and fair gas shows through the Tariki Sandstone interval (Cl thru C5). Hydrocarbon fluorescence of 10-40% was recorded in the drill cuttings. The sandstones were very fine grained and fairly well cemented. The Tariki Sandstone (Upper Plate) was perforated, tested and ultimately fracture stimulated. Even on gas lift the well proved marginally productive making approximately 15-20 BOPD with 50-100 BWPD.
