Kauri-A2 was drilled as an appraisal well in PEP38719. The well was designed to evaluate the Manutahi Sandstones reservoir discovered in Kauri-A1 in May 2001. Kauri-A2 was spudded on 8 September 2001. The Manutahi sandstone was encountered at 1163 mMD. Good hydrocarbon shows were recorded through this interval to 1183 mMD. Kauri-A2 drilled into the Murihiku Group Basement at 1254 mMD. The well TD at 1280 mMD on the 16 September 2001. The well was suspended for testing and the rig was released. A workover rig was moved onto site on the 25 September 2001 and testing of the Manutahi Sandstone continued until 18 October 2001. A completion rig operated through December to 12 January 2002. The Manutahi Sand flowed 50 BOPD with minor gas during the initial phase of testing.
