Kawhaka-1

Login to download

Kawhaka-1 well was drilled on an anticline which had been defined by surface work and shallow drilling using base of Pliocene as key horizon. Estimated closure was 290ft with length 2.7 miles and breadth 1.4 miles. It was realised that Opoiti was unconformable on the underlying beds but it was hoped that structure in the younger beds would be a reflection of a more pronounced fold beneath the unconformity. The drilling of Kawhaka-1 proved this to be more the case than had been expected and minor unconformities found further north were found to have increased to such an extent that --------- complete stages were cut out, including the beds in which it was hoped oil was to be found.
