Geological and geophysical evidence indicates that good petroleum prospects exist in PPL 38070. 3 structures, 1 prospect and 2 leads have been mapped on seismic data. Geological data indicate that oil generation has been a continuous process since Kaiatan times. Initiation of structure was during Late Miocene times and post-dates that of generation. Nevertheless, there has been sufficient time available to charge these structures. Rocks with attractive reservoir qualities are found in the Brunner Coal Measures (BCM), the target horizon. A seal is provided in the form of the thick Kaiatan Mudstone which directly overlies the BCM. Finally, these structures are large enough to contain economic deposits of oil. It is therefore apparent that all the features required for an economic oil discovery exist in PPL 38070.
