A site survey of the proposed Taimana-1 drillsite was carried out in June 1983 by Buxton Tuder and Waugh for Diamond Shamrock Oil Company (NZ) Ltd. A 3km square area was surveyed, with 500m line spacing in east-west and north-south directions, and with 200m line spacing in the centre 1km square. Bathymetry, sidescan and seismic profiling was continuous on all survey lines. Nine gravity cores were obtained. It is concluded that no hazards exist on the seabed and there are no faults or significant structures in the upper 150m sub-bottom. The Syledis system will be satisfactory for rig positioning.
