Most of the outcrop samples studied are immature for hydrocarbon generation though some Cretaceous ones from the Waikaremoana Fault - Motu River area have passed the oil generation threshold. Samples 53, 113 and 142 contain moderate to good hydrocarbon source potentials ranging from 2 to 10kg hydrocarbons/tonne sediment. They are gas plus oil prone with GOGI values of 0.31 to 0.41. The remaining outcrop samples contain either poor or insignificant source potential. Samples 97, 158, 159 and 179 appear to contain some migrated hydrocarbons. None of the outcrop samples shown to contain any significant source potential, nor more mature lateral equivalents, are likely to be the source of these hydrocarbons.
