A thorough review of existing well data in and close to PPL 38114 has been carried out in order to (i) provide a consistent stratigraphic framework as a necessary aid to the evaluation of the prospectivity of the licence area, and (ii) more specifically, to refine correlation in the Kapuni/Pakawau coal measures sequence. Six lettered lithostratigraphic units have been defined for the Base Mokau/ Mohakatino to Top Kapuni interval, on the basis of log response, lithology and environment of deposition. No lithostratigraphic subdivision of the Kapuni Group could be made with confidence. A correlation based on chronostratigraphy has therefore been made. Results are presented as a revised correlation diagram.
