Review of Geology and Geophysics Canterbury Plains Concession.

Login to download

This report consists of a review of certain geological and geophysical reports concerning the Shell-BP-Todd Canterbury concession in NZ. The investigations carried out to date have indicated the presence of one or more basinal depressions under the Canterbury Plains of NZ, in which Cretaceous and Tertiary sediments appear to have been faulted and folded sufficiently to have formed structural traps for petroleum. It is concluded that due to poor understanding of the stratigraphy of the area, what is most needed is a knowledge of the extent and nature of the subsurface stratigraphic section, and only wells to basement can provide this. It is recommended that a test well be drilled in order to partially fulfill the requirements of the farmout agreement.
