This report by Cheal Petroleum Limited summarises the abandonment of Cheal D-1 well within PEP 54877, Taranaki Basin. Cheal-D1 was spudded on 16th July 2017 by Cheal Petroleum Limited as the first well drilled off the Cheal D pad to the northeast of Cheal B. The Well was drilled to evaluate the Mt Messenger Sands in a Northern extension of the Cheal-B10 fault block. The primary Mt Messenger target was unsuccessful, however, the well encountered fair to good reservoir quality sands in the secondary Urenui-A Sand target. On the 10th August 2017, the well was perforated over the Urenui-A sand interval 1859.7 to 1877.0 m MD. However, testing concluded limited reservoir connectivity and Cheal-D1 was suspended as a non-commercial gas discovery. Due to the expiry of PEP 54877 on the 10th December 2022, the Urenui-A abandonment was completed with the installation of a combination balance plug circulated around the tubing and into the annulus and a cement plug from 183.5 KB to 1829.7 KB. Cheal D1 well abandonment operations were successfully completed on 21st February 2023.
