Synopsis of the hydrocarbon prospects in the Hawke Bay area.

Offshore PPL 684 in Hawke Bay lies in the East Coast Basin of North Island, NZ. The basin history and stratigraphy is outlined and contains Cretaceous to Recent, predominantly fine grained, marine sediments that have been repeatedly affected by diastrophic movements. Seismic surveys have shown the presence of some 15 separate closed structures at Horizon D. Prospect No. 1 is the largest, the deepest and oldest of these structures, and a well location has been provisionally located to test this structure. The well would have as its primary reservoir target the Pliocene near-shore sandstones and detrital limestones. A secondary reservoir target, the Upper Miocene sandstone should also be penetrated in order to fully assess the hydrocarbon potential of the Hawke Bay offshore area.
