Brief report and correspondence on the structure and stratigraphy of the Mangaoporo anticline with some comments on oil sands and oil indications. It is stated that the most thorough geologic studies do not give assurance of finding oil in commercial quantity. In this case they indicate the probability of finding oil on the Mangaoporo anticline in quantities which cannot be predicted. Some of the sands are thick enough to make big wells. Other anticlines on the East Coast of NZ, which in larger area, bigger closure and other features offer prospects of becoming yet more valuable oilfields. On account of road conditions, these other anticlines can not be prepared for testing until the next dry season, when their development can be undertaken without serious trouble.
