Gladstone-1 was drilled by OMV New Zealand Ltd. in exploration permit 57075 (Cloudy Bay), to assess a Middle Miocene channel complex (Gladstone prospect). Trap mechanism prognosed was a combination structural-stratigraphic trap, with channels sealed by claystone and a large normal fault. Hydrocarbons were interpreted to be generated in the Arawa Graben directly below the prospect. Gladstone-1 was drilled vertically to a TD of 3076m MD. No movable hydrocarbons were encountered at any level in Gladstone-1. Interpreted cause for failure was insufficient seal integrity permitting trap leakage. Gladstone-1 was plugged and abandoned as dry well with minor gas shows. Rig released on 27.12.2019.
