Cheal-C2 was drilled to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of an upper Miocene amplitude anomaly in PMP 38156. The primary target of the well was the Mt Messenger Formation with a secondary target of the Urenui sandstone. Cheal-C2 was drilled by Ensign Rig 19, and was spudded on September 26 2011. A total depth of 2138m MD was reached on 6 October. Good oil and gas shows were encountered while drilling through the Mt Messenger MM3 target. After wireline logging the well was cased, completed and perforated as a future Mt Messenger producer well. The drilling rig was released on 10 October 2011.
