Cheal-B5 is a deviated exploratory well designed to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of an upper Miocene amplitude anomaly in PMP 38156. The primary target of the well was the Mt Messenger and Urenui Formations. Cheal-B5 was drilled by Ensign Rig 19, and was spudded on November 4 2011. A total depth of 1852.5m MD was reached on 12 November 2011. Good oil and gas shows were encountered while drilling through both reservoir targets with much thicker sands than anticipated encountered. After wireline logging the well was cased, completed and perforated as a producer.
