Whitianga-2 was drilled in PEP 38778 between February and March 2010, and reached a TD of 659.65m. The aim was to locate coals, gas and oil within the Mangapapa and Maryville Coal Measures (CM). Mudlogging, gas chromatograph hotwire logs and petrophysical interpretation successfully identified zones of gas within both coal measures at suitable depths for coal seam gas exploitation. Coring of coals and subsequent testing measured the gas content and reservoir properties of the Maryville CM. Twelve seams ranging in thickness between 0.24m and 2.10m were found, with net coal of 4.10m and 8.82m in the Mangapapa and Maryville CM respectively. Gas content of the Maryville CM ranged from 0.35 m3/t and 4.13 m3/t and averaged 3.68 m3/t. The well was plugged and abandoned after drawdown and injectivity testing.
