Preliminary report is given on a reconnaissance gravity survey in the Reefton Trough-Farewell Spit-Takaka area and Nelson Lowlands with a final report on the gravity survey in the Nelson Lowlands. Ninety-two line miles of gravity operations with stations of approximately 1-mile intervals were observed by gravity meter in the Reefton-Inangahua graben. The survey was of a reconnassaince nature and satisfactorily defined the graben and indicated areas of potentially deeper sedimentation. Station interval, however, is indicated probably to have been too wide to successfully define supra-basement structure of particular interest in oil exploration. Certain areas recommended for more detailed examination in this respect, and using 1/4 mile station intervals, are outlined.
