The Petrex soil geochemistry program was designed to map the distribution of petroliferous hydrocarbon character in soil gases, which may be representative of potential economic accumulations. A secondary objective was to try to distinguish between gas accumulations and oil accumulations from the hydrocarbon signatures. Results show three areas of prospective anomalies, the largest of which lies on the eastern edge of PPL 38316 near the boundary with PPL 38324. The anomaly may cover an area up to 100 square km. Although there are numerous other small anomalies, most of the survey area is not geochemically prospective. Recommendations suggest that the anomalous areas be investigated further with a sample spacing of 200 - 250 m.
