The MB-5/5A well (PML381012) was drilled as a horizontal development well from the Maui-B Platform. It was the ninth development well completed to total depth. MB-5 was spudded on 28 September 1993. Drilling proceeded without any problems down to 2071m and the 13 3/8in casing shoe set at 2066.6m. The MB-5 well drilled ahead as 12 1/4in hole to 2979m. Logs indicated an OWC at 2768.3m TVDSS for the oil-rim in the C Sand. While carrying out a checktrip prior to drilling ahead from 2979m, the drillstring became stuck at 2798m. The well was plugged and there was a successful kick-off at 2528m as MB-5A. The 8 1/2in hole was completed to 3330m. Wireline logging and oil shows indicated that the D1.6 Middle, D1.10 Upper and D1.10 Lower units were oil bearing. The 8 1/2 hole section was completed to 3729m total depth on 5 January 1994. Production from the F Sand interval commenced in December 1994. See also PR1567 for Maui B drilling end of project report.
