Final Report on a ground magnetometric survey of the Taranaki Peninsula - New Zealand.

The objective of this groundmagnetometric survey was to determine the extent of subsurface igneous phenomena on the Taranaki Peninsula. The value of the obtained basic information was found to be adversely affected by the undesired effects of surface and near surface sources of magnetic disturbances. A contour interval of up to 100 gammas had to be resorted to which thereby rendered the interpretation of some of the major phenomena as innaccurate, and a number of smaller features obscured beyond recognition. Nevertheless, a general picture was achieved and it was found that, regarding the oil prospects, the southern part of the peninsula has a possible structural feature of interest. It is concluded that additional work is recommended both within and beyond the Taranaki Peninsula proper.
