Macpherson Geological Consultants was contracted by NZOG to undertake a geochemical survey in PPL38083 and PPL38084, Taranaki. The technique used in this study detects and quantifies the type and abundance of free gas in the near surface. The advantages of the technique are that it is rapid, cheap and results can be more directly related to the accumulations being sought. Discussed are factors that should be considered when interpreting the results.
