Macpherson Geological Consultants was contracted by New Zealand Oil and Gas to undertake using shothole cuttings, a geochemical survey in PPLs 38083, 38084, 38702 and 38707, Taranaki, New Zealand. Gas chromatograph surveys can cheaply and rapidly signify the existence of catagenically derived hydrocarbons, however, the manifestation of that signal is a response to the regional characteristics of any Basin. Therefore, interpretation of the data must consider those factors.
