This report combines a study of source rocks from Kea-1, Maui-4, North Tasman-1, Tasman-1 and Surville-1 with a regional study of source rock maturity. A reasonable sequence of Pakawau and Kapuni sediments are present within PPL38407. The Pakawau ranges in thickness from 131 metres to 1025 metres in the surrounding wells while the Kapuni Formation varies from 166 metres to 762 metres in surrounding wells. Total organic content (TOC) of shares within the Kapuni and Pakawau Formations ranged from 2 % to 5 % while coals ranged from 10 % to 50 %. Mapping shows large areas of the Kapuni Formation have reached early oil generation. Maturity increases to the north and east. Pakawau sediments have reached early to late oil and gas generation in depressions within the licence and this again increases to the north and east.
