The Bouguer Total Field map of this study is based on 1188 stations forming the Geophysics database for the area. The axis of North Wanganui Basin is apparent as a negative flexure of the isogals within PPL38700. The total field map is made up of a composite of short to long wavelength anomalies that originate from a wide range of depths. In this study the long wavelength regional field is based on and connected to greywacke. A least squares quadratic surface was fitted to this data. This surface makes up the Regional over the mapped area. Subtraction of the regional field has accentuated the higher frequency anomalies of presumed shallow origin over the area. 2-D modelling of the residual field was undertaken to estimate depth to basement. These profiles give average values of 2 to 2.5km and a maximum of 4km for the thickness of sediment within the PPL38700 gravity low.
