Between March 13 and June 24, 1987 a light (C1-C5) hydrocarbon, interstitial soil gas survey was undertaken across the Taylor Anticline (PPL 38044) Murchison Basin, on behalf of Striker Petroleum Ltd. The purpose of the survey was to evaluate a potential hydrocarbon accumulation that may be related to a small gas seep near the crest of the Taylor Anticline. It was found that light (C1-C5) hydrocarbon anomalies associated with the Taylor Anticline are generally small and isolated and relate to small faults and fractures rather than the main anticlinal structure. The survey indicates that in the area of the Taylor Anticline very light hydrocarbons predominate over heavier hydrocarbons of the paraffin series. This indicates that if a hydrocarbon accumulation is associated with the Taylor Anticline, it is likely to be gas rather than oil or condensate.
