A marine geochemical SNIFFER survey was conducted during March-April 1986 in the Greater Maui area offshore the North Island of NZ. Measurements of C1 through C4 hydrocarbons were analyzed at more than 1389 locations along a total of 995 line kms. Principal findings of exploration interest from this survey are: 1. Anomalous levels of hydrocarbons were observed in two sub-areas; 2. Based upon InterOceans characterization criteria, the hydrocarbons added to the water are in the northeastern sub-area characteristic of a dry gas source. Hydrocarbons added to the water near the Maui-4 well are slightly wetter. This report summarizes the field operations and describes the methods employed and the delivered data package.
