Te Ranga-1 (PPL 38107) was spudded on April 8, 1986. The primary objective of the well was to test sandstone reservoirs of the Cretaceous Pakawau Formation. The Te Ranga Prospect lies on the eastern margin of the Taranaki graben, and consists of a dip closure, truncated by the Taranaki boundary fault. Other targets include Lower Paleocene and Eocene sands sealed by overlying Kaiata shales and basement thrust.
