During the period of March 7 to July 6, 1984, Geoterrex Pty Ltd conducted a regional gravity survey in South Island, NZ. The purpose of the survey was to measure variations in the gravity field over the Te Anau and Waiau Basins. All phases of the gravity survey proceeded smoothly with production rates very similar to what had been originally projected. A uniform grid of gravity stations was surveyed in most areas except in the forest covered regions. The final Bouger data collected on this survey have been shown to be accurate to about 1/3 milligal for stations surveyed by EDM and about 1/2 milligal for stations surveyed by altimeter. The combined methods of EDM and altimetry surveying was definitely the most cost-efficient and feasible manner to acquire this data.
