Racal Survey Australia were contracted by BP Shell Todd (Canterbury) Services Ltd through Racal Electronics (NZ) Ltd to conduct a 4 km by 4 km site survey centred on the location known as Clipper-1 (PPL38202). The scope of work called for the survey to comprise soundings, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiling and drop coring. From the results obtained, the depth on location was found to be 149 m; this being at the top of an escarpment with a gradient of 1 in 15 which dropped away to the SE from location. The bottom of this gradient was not within the bounds of the survey area. The area was found to be free of obstruction with only minor sand rippling on the downward face of the slope; the remainder of the area including location was featureless and probably comprised fine silts and sand.
