PPL 38058 is located offshore from the NW coast of the South Island, NZ, on the southern extension of the Taranaki Basin. The principal objective in PPL 38058 is the Eocene coal measures which produces at Maui. Total thickness of this sequence in the licence varies from about 300 to 900m, based on seismic data. Secondary objectives could be the Upper Cretaceous/lowermost Tertiary, Pakawau Group, Oligocene Cobden/Te Kuiti Limestone and the Miocene Mokau-Mohakatino Group. No wells have been drilled within the licence. The Eocene objective is expected to be within the oil mature zone. If not, generation would have certainly occurred in the underlying sediments wherever present and also migration into the prospects. Good reservoirs and seals are expected.
