This report describes the work programme to June 1983 on the Sams Creek Dyke prospect, Takaka. This included a programme of gridding, detailed surface mapping, blasting for fresh surfaces and material for chip and bulk rock sampling. Mapping determined that dominant and sub-dominant quartz veining systems with associated pervasive silicification are the main visual parameters associated with pyrite/arsenic/gold mineralisation. Sampling results indicate that there are no major contaminants apart from arsenic within the mineralised rock. A programme of pitting and trenching combined with further detailed geological mapping is recommended to take place before drilling. This should be followed by a five hole diamond drilling programme.
