This report commissioned by Goodrock Recycling Ltd discusses the ecological constraints that may be present regarding the development of permit 60613, located in the Wellington Region, as a quarry. The property is approximately 420 hectares, roughly 50 hectares of which is proposed as a quarry. An unnamed tributary of the Pāuatahanui Stream runs through the southwest corner of the property. Parts of the proposed quarry footprint are included in the following Porirua City Council's Significant Natural Areas, Moonshine Seral Forest & Tree fernland and Abbott South Riparian Remnant. All vegetation and habitat types were assessed for their ecological value. Significant indigenous mature forest provides habitat for At Risk bird species, and potential habitat for bats and other indigenous dominant habitats on the property offer suitable habitat for rare lizards and invertebrates. Assuming that proposed works at the site would involve the modification of these terrestrial habitats, and potentially aquatic and wetland habitats these could lead to potential adverse effects and measures to avoid, mitigate or compensate these effects will need to be considered.
