In November 2017 GNS Science was contracted by MBIE to produce three reports on the potential of 'green' minerals in New Zealand (Rare Earth Elements, Lithium, and Nickel-Cobalt). This report summarizes a desktop study by GNS Science with the aim of improving the understanding of the potential for Rare Earth Element (REE) mineralisation in New Zealand. Regions with the highest potential for REE mineralisation are discussed and knowledge gaps for future research and data acquisition programmes identified. An ArcGIS geodatabase and sample data from a GNS sourced sampling programme accompany this report.
