The Barewood Reefs lie 16kn SE of Middlemarch and 84km NW of Dunedin on a plateau about 3000ft above sea level. The area referred to as Barewood is the triangular region of approx 24,000 acres between the Taieri River and Deep Stream. Both flow in steep sided gorges 600-700 ft below the general level of the Plateau. The Reef has been described as the best known vein in the Taieri Gorge district The report details the history of the Barewood Mining Field.
