Pilot scale batch leach on roasted Westport ilmenite

The procedure for a pilot batch leach on roasted ilmenite is as follows: 100kg of roasted ilmenite was prepared in the small batch roaster. Using the medium size leach vessel this ilmenite was leached in 33% hydrochloric acid for 8 hours. Because of an acid shortage 24 extra litres was added at the sixth hour. Due to the acid shortage the synthetic rutile product from this leach was not of high quality and, with respect to producing a bulk product, the leach was unsuccessful.
