During the reporting period ownership of EP 40-304 was transferred from Rangitata Pty Ltd to ANZEX Resources Ltd. Exploration during the year included an aeromagnetic survey and the letting of a contract to drill the first 3 holes of a 12 hole programme. The aeromagnetic survey was flown in May 1997, with a magnetometer mounted into a locally contracted helicopter. The data was corrected for regional gradient by subtraction of the IGRF Model 1995 calculated at the date of the survey. Diurnal variations and system parallax were removed from the data, and tie line leveling and enhanced microlevelling techniques applied. Results are plotted on three enclosures, including total magnetic intensity, pixel map of the airborne magnetic data and a pixel map of airborne digital terrain. Previous geological mapping was incorporated with the geophysical data to construct a geological interpretation of the area. It was proposed that the Longwood Igneous Complex comprises three principle units; The Pahia Layered Series, an assemblage of diorites and gabbros that appear to overlie the Pahia Layered Series to the west, and the Pourakino Trodhjemite which cuts both the Pahia Layered Series and the diorites. Exploration interest is centered on the Pahia Layered Series. A twelve hole drilling programme was approved and the first three holes are designed to intersect as much of the section as possible. Future work was expected to include completion of the 12 drill hole programme and the development of a coherent geological map, as well as field work to investigate specific anomalies detected in the aeromagnetic survey.
