Geological investigations (surface mapping, geophysical surveying and 9 machine boreholes) within the permit areas indicate the presence of two potential aggregate sources. Two rock types identified include fresh unaltered andesite and silicified andesite. Full depth and extent of aggregate resources has not been proven, but preliminary quarry models developed within the fresh andesite indicate a reserve of approximately 1 million BCM at a stripping ratio of 0.9:1 (OB:AN). As no boreholes in this area penetrated the base of the andesite deposit, reserves are potentially much higher and stripping ratio lower. The site is well located being within 25-30km of Rotorua, at least 2km from the nearest dwelling and close to State Highway 5. Deep drilling of the deposits is recommended to improve confidence in the resource and economics of quarrying.
