Login to download

Exploration Permit 40-236 was granted to Milburn New Zealand in October 1994. Its purpose was to explore for potential aggregates in an area extending north from Old Mountain Road , near Hamilton. Preliminary investigations, and work included in the report, comprised geological mapping, sampling, petrographic and x-ray diffraction studies. Mapping indicates the area is likely to be underlain by a significant greywacke resource. The greywacke belongs to the Lower Triassic Newcastle Group. Outcrop is poor except in the Mangakowhai Stream and a small quarry. Composition is quartz, Plagioclase, chlorite and smectite, with rare zeolite. The presence of clays could result in accelerated weathering following quarrying and crushing.
