Prospecting permit application 39-001. An assessment of the quality and upgrading potential of ilmenite within a heavy mineral sand concentration in the Muriwai - WoodHill area. (Report No. QB94/O3I)

Westland Ilmenite Limited applied for a Prospecting Permit in October, 1991, over the Woodhill Forest area. Exposed heavy mineral sand concentrations on Muriwai Beach were considered be representative of heavy mineral suites that might occur within the adjacent application area. A small sample from this heavy mineral beach concentrate was obtained. This report details the analytical test work carried out on the ilmenite fraction of this sample and an evaluation of the ilmenites upgrading capabilities. Results indicate that the ilmenite quality is poor.
