The Longwood Exploration Project spanned two years. There are two principle rock associations: the Longwood Igneous Complex, a suite comprised of layered mafic rocks, granodiorite, diorite, and granitoid; and the Takitimu Group, a series of volcaniclastic sediments with minor volcanics and intrusvies. Two principle targets were sought. Initial reconnaissance exploration concentrated on the collection of panned concentrates, sieved stream sediments and rock float from drainages. Subsequent exploration focussed on target definition via ridge and spur soil sample traverses, outcrop and float sampling and further drainage sampling. The project has resulted in two significant discoveries at Foals Creek and the Longwood Platinum Prospect.
