The geological activities were mainly aimed at compiling a complete stratigraphical column of the Taranaki basin and secondly at determining the trends and importance of facies changes. Samples were collected from a number of selected sections in the area east of the Patea-Tongaporutu High. In the western part-the Taranak peninsula proper-where extensively blanketing by volcanic material restricts surface geology, the cores of several previously drillied wells were available. In addition shothole samples were received from Shell BP and Todd. Finally our own well Kapuni-1, provided valuable new information both from cores and cuttings. The compiled results from all these surveys are presented here.
