Coals from the Ohai and Nightcaps coalfield : volatile matter and benzol extracts

Theere appears to be a relationship between the stratigraphic position of coal s from Ohai and Nightcaps coaldfields and their volatile matter calculated on the dry, ash free basis. In general, coals from the Beaumont coal measures have more volatile matter than those from the Morley coal measures. The coals of the Beaumont coal measures (of the Nighcaps group) contain more resin than coals of the Ohai group, this difference being one of the criteria for distinguishing the group in the field. Therefore an attemp was made to correlate the volatile matter with the resin contents, using analyses made and benzol extractions made for the purpose.
