Laboratory testing of core from Sullivan mine, Denniston

Login to download

Logging and strength tests were undertaken on drill cores from Sullivan Mine to assess the cutability of the coal measure strata. A number of rocks tested had strengths higher than the reputed capacity of the Joy Continuous Miner (< 55.2 MPa), but only one sample had a strength grreater than the reputed capability of the Dosco Dint Header (strength <82.7 Mpa). However, cutability may not be related to unconfined compressive strength directly, other factors such as cementation, indentation haardness, rebound hardness and rock defect soacing should also be considered.
