Looking at the conditions likely to be encountered in boring and to determine as closely as possible the limits of the coal basin. These points having been determined borehole sites were laid out on a systematic plan in readiness for drilling and surveys started as occasion permitted of the various topographical features roads, creeks etc. Three drillholes were used for boring operations on the Charleston flat.
