Preliminary geological assessment of the Garvey Creek Coalfield, following three weeks field work. Coal Measures are similar to the Brunner of Greymouth and Westport Coalfields, but generally stratigraphy is simpler. Coal horizon lies immediately above this conglomerate and is overlane by quartz sandstone and grits which grade up into finer beds with an increasing proportion of unweathered material, in places angular fragment oe granite and greywacke are common in the middle part of the coal measures.
